Updating the ebook library

I have this thing. I don't want to be sucked into Amazon's ebook infrastructure. So I have gotten other ereaders.

I have had a Sony, two Nooks, and am now on a Kobo Aura One.

I have bought ebooks from Google, Sony, Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Baen, Storybundle, Humble Bundle, Kobo, and probably some independent retailers that I don't remember off the top of my head.

They are now, as far as I know, now all listed in my Calibre directory. I am currently at over 1200 ebooks.

The lack of good pictures, good tagging, and having the authors actually be the same throughout my reader has bugged me for forever. (I should be able to see all my Courtney Milan books in one group, right?)

So I am going through Calibre and fixing all the metadata for all of the books. Part of me feels like this is a fool's errand. But for whatever reason, it's really comforting to me.

Sometimes those kinds of tasks are so very comforting. I occasionally do that with my Calibre books, and my Flickr account.

That said, I finally caved to the Amazon ebook world because the paperwhite got such rave reviews, but I'm curious about your experience with the Kobo One. I may need to get a new reader in the next year or so.

I adore my Kobo. It's big, so if I check out a manga, the whole page shows up on my screen. I love the auto-sync with Overdrive, although there are issues if the edition from my library doesn't match the edition that the Kobo store has. My two big issues with it are that 1) the sensors are a little to the left of the icons, so I will often hit the button for the icon on the right, and 2) it keeps wanting to turn the light on, and I don't like it on most of the time.

Also, my favorite ebook cover maker, Oberon Designs, doesn't make any covers that will fit the Aura One. But I love the size so much, I accept that as part of the price of doing business.

I'm on the subreddit for Kobo, and I know a lot of people have had issues with trying to return one for mechanical issues, but mine works well, and the one time I needed tech support, they are super fast at getting back to me.
